Finding magic in unexpected places

If / Then Musicals Matter

Hello lovely musical theatre friend,

Have you ever had one of those moments where you discover someone you know, in a very 'normal' way, is a musical theatre fan? Then suddenly this new world opens up, like the yellow brick road leading towards the Emerald City.

Prior to creating this newsletter, my mum-friend Rachel and I discovered that we had a love of musicals in common. After that I knew we would be friends beyond maternity leave. Now we are conspiring to go to Bar Broadway in Brighton for some much-needed show tunes in our lives. Bring it on.

When was the last time a new musical bestie came into your life? Hit 'forward' and send this newsletter to them. There's something beautifully magnetic about finding your people in unexpected places.

Just... wow. Thank you, Julie for this. If you haven't heard this yet, stop everything. His voice brings something completely different to this Jonathan Larson masterpiece - there's a rawness and vulnerability that hits different. Perfect for those moments when you need to feel everything deeply.

Tell me you're a musical fan without telling me

I can't pee before the over-priced souvenir has been purchased. There are others like me out there, right?!

And a voice keeps saying
This is where I'm meant to be."

A weekly reprise to your inbox When Showgirl meets Musical Theatre All eyes on our illusionist Hello lovely musical theatre friend, Since my late twenties, I've been a Swiftie AND a musicals fan. These passions reside in the same universe, but honestly I didn't realise how closely they orbit until I came to write this Taylor themed newsletter. When "The Life of a Showgirl" dropped this week, I kept thinking about how Taylor's entire career has been one long theatrical performance - the...

A weekly reprise to your inbox Where You Belong Hello lovely musical theatre friend, Today we had our musical theatre book club! With folks dialing in from London, York, Chicago and Brighton, we had a wonderful mix of insightful thoughts about the cast album for Maybe Happy Ending. The group thought it was refreshingly short, but also catchy, different, earnest and gentle. An oasis of charm from the cynical world outside. We all agreed we would go to see the show if we could, controversy...

A weekly reprise to your inbox Reawakening a showmance Come to the Fun Home Hello lovely musical theatre friend, Ever forgotten how much you love a show? Like, if someone mentioned that show, you would logically remember it was good... But somehow the memory of discovering it has faded with time. Then it comes back into your life - and BAM. Your heart goes boom. This happened to me last week. I made the trip to York to see my BFF Cat absolutely shine as Helen in Fun Home. Watching her bring...
